[[Relight]]
As part of the native apps project, I need/want to upgrade the versions of Node and Nuxt that Relight runs on. This is because it is pretty far behind and I knew I’d be writing a fair amount of code for the native apps; I didn’t want to be writing that in such a way that it would just need to be rewritten again when it comes time to update.
Most of that work is now completed and I’m ready to start doing the rest of the work in public, as it were. As of right now, here is what has been changed in the current beta (besides behind-the-scenes stuff you won’t be able to notice).
- The site may seem faster. It’s running on a new server with upgraded versions of Python, Node, and Nuxt. Hopefully this makes things run faster, not slower (in my experience this has been the case).
- The audio feature does not work yet.
- Settings don’t work yet.
- There are lots of bugs for you to find (think Timone and Pumba diet).
- Some pages (about the site kind of pages) may not work yet.
From here, I’ll be pushing little updates to the alpha version that fix or improve the build you can see now. I’m planning to do the following:
- Fix bugs
- Re-add audio feature
- Re-enable settings
- Collapse distinct but similar components into singular modular components so the design language can stay consistent (IE, rewrite code to make sure that all the lightbulb icon drop-down stuff is using the same code and looks the same whether you’re looking at John chapter 3 or WLC 195).
- Design refresh of major UI elements to fit with modern OS’s, including iOS 26, set to come out likely in September.
On the design front, rest assured that this is not a full redesign. We like the current design and we are only looking to take from modern design trends things that we think will be helpful or improve Relight’s user experience and aesthetic. We’re not gonna turn everything into hard-to-read text printed on glass.
Lastly, I rather emphatically do not recommend using this as your daily driver. It’s not even feature complete and has no new features to reward you for enduring the bugs. I’d suggest only using this to test and report bugs as a kindness to your fellow users so that they can get caught before we ship this thing.
