Beta 2026.0 – John Gill and Some News

Greetings all,

Been a while. After I announced Relight Audio’s seemingly imminent release, I hit some pretty serious health things and became rather less than useful. That is to say, between symptoms and side-effects from poorly prescribed medications, I wasn’t able to work on much of anything for a non-trivial amount of time.

Anyway, as I begin to recover I’ve wanted to work on Relight. I’d say I’m not quite up to just dive in and make serious progress on the larger efforts like a native app or Relight Audio—but I did want to do something. So here is a new commentary!

John Gill is probably my favorite baptist—or at least he’s tied with John Bunyan and Charles Spurgeon, and of course my mom. His commentary is widely respected in the reformed community by baptists and reformed/presbyterian alike. This is his exposition of the entire Bible. One of his biggest strengths is how much interaction he does with the original languages—bringing a more technical approach to Relight for the first time (existing commentaries do some technical work, but it’s definitely more of an emphasis of Gill’s). And of course, Gill was a true 1689-style London Baptist, so his commentary is a great resource for baptists who come to a passage and think, “I wonder what a Puritan baptist might have said about this.” And I think that’s pretty neat. Tell all your baptist friends!

Other News

  • The other thing with mentioning is just that as I recover, I expect more updates to come.
  • One noteworthy thing is that we will transitioning away from this website (which costs us money to host) to a Discord server. One advantage besides being free will be that it will be easy for you guys to tag me if there’s a major issue like Relight going down or something.

Changelog

  • Added John Gill’s Exposition of the Bible
  • Hopefully fixed a bug that would cause a video of a candle to sometimes pop up full-screen when navigating to the homepage

Praying you recover quickly, @DavidMikucki!

You posted this on the blog: Release 2025.0: Small Fixes and Improvements | Relight Blog

However, the post title on the site says 2025.0 (though the URL is correct). You might want to correct that.

Also, since you skipped the first couple of paragraphs from this Relight Chat message in the blog post, both points under “Other News” are a little out of place on the blog. You left out the bit about the health issues in the main body, so “as I recover” doesn’t have any context. Also, I may be wrong, but I think “this website” refers to Relight Chat, so that point copied into the blog post might be inaccurate as well.

Thank you, Brad! I can always count on you to catch things like that. Much appreciated.
